Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to a fitness session at A Okay Wellness?

SHORTS! And the shorter the better. The BodyShape treadmill & bicycle use infrared and collagen red light therapy which work best with direct exposure to the skin so that the healing therapies can be absorbed into the deeper layers of tissue.

Running, walking, or training sneakers are also recommended for the BodyShape.

For the SensoPro, we ask that you wear grippy socks to prevent injury and ensure proper foot placement.

A Okay Wellness sells a variety of shorts and grip socks in case you forget!

How often do you recommend I do these fitness sessions?

As often as you like! As long as you are also doing other forms of exercise during the week, it is recommended to do the BodyShape cardio workouts 1-2 times per week. For maximum benefits you can double up and do 60 minute sessions. If you are trying to get in shape or shed pounds or water weight you can do the BodyShape 3-5 times a week for 3-5 weeks.

For the SensoPro a little goes a long way! 2 15 minute sessions per week are a great support to any sport conditioning while 1 20 minute session per week is great for brain health and maintenance.

What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture helps the body, mind, and spirit find it’s way back to health and harmony by balancing the various energies and systems in the body. In this way acupuncture is helpful for almost any imbalance, discomfort, or disease in the body.

Recent treatments have included relief and support for:

  • Chronic and acute pain

  • Insomnia

  • Stress & fatigue

  • Hormonal imbalances and discomfort, PMS, infertility, perimenopause

  • Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief

  • Discontent, irritability, apathy, isolation, loneliness, stickiness

  • Bloating, heaviness in the limbs, poor circulation

  • TMJ, tinnitus, Bell’s Palsy, xerostomia (dry mouth)

  • Migraines

  • Digestive complaints (IBS/ constipation/ indigestion/ acid reflux, etc)

  • Respiratory issues, immune function

  • Pre-surgery, post-surgery support

  • Addiction and/or behavior modification support and habit breaking

  • Weight loss

Doesn’t acupuncture hurt?

Not necessarily.

Acupuncture uses tiny filiform needles that are bendable and designed to facilitate relaxation and healing.

Most of the acupuncture performed at A Okay Wellness uses a gentle Japanese- style technique and clients report not feeling any discomfort at all. Occasionally a needle may tap a tiny nerve ending in the skin and even that is a fleeting feeling like a little pinch. (Nothing like getting a shot- those needles are huge!!)

There are protocols which may require a more aggressive type of acupuncture needling but the client will always be able to dictate their experience and treatment. Even when “aggressive”, the sensations felt from acupuncture needling are often extremely quick and mild- more of a dull spreading feeling which many people actually enjoy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine there are even protocols where acupuncture alone is used as anesthesia for surgeries and procedures.

If at any tine you are uncomfortable, the treatment can be modified for you.

How do I sign up for Moxa or e-stim?

All healing services may be employed under a regular acupuncture treatment. When indicated Moxa, cupping, e-stim, gua sha, tui na, guided meditation may be incorporated as part of a treatment.

Only cupping is offered as a stand-alone treatment.

How many acupuncture treatments will I need?

It depends on your complaint, expectations, and the duration of the complaint.

It is recommended to try at least 3 sessions to experience the benefits of acupuncture.

For those seeking nervous system, digestive, hormonal, and immune support regular sessions once a week or every other week prove to be highly effective.

For non-chronic pain, depending on the cause, duration, and quality, 1 or 2 sessions per week for 2-3 weeks may be indicated.

Chronic pain syndromes respond best to weekly treatments for about 6 weeks followed by monthly or bimonthly tune ups.

Some people come in for spot check resets and tune ups once a month or as needed.

Many people experience immediate calm and better sleep.

For long standing or deep seeded chronic dis-eases more sessions may be needed.

Acupuncture may not be indicated for some conditions so please fill out and send the intake form prior to your appointment to assess expectations.

What should I wear to an acupuncture session?

You can wear whatever you’re wearing- we offer hospital gowns to offer clients privacy and comfort.

For small group acupuncture sessions, comfortable clothing is all you need with access to hands, wrists, elbows, feet, ankles, and knees.
